These introductions are always difficult. Like, what do I say without sounding like an idiot? Okay, here goes: My name is Mark Damon Brooks and I'm an author. Whew! That was hard. Oh, I have to write more? Well, I'm primarily a science fiction writer who is currently dabbling in the world of urban fantasy. I've written and self-published four books. I'm always writing. I love writing. Writing is the best! Whoa, sorry. Sometimes I get carried away. I've tried other creative pursuits, but I always come back to writing. There's just something so fulfilling about crafting worlds and characters and outlining the journey those characters will take. I've been writing since I was a kid. Fun fact about me, my favorite movie is Jurassic Park. When I was about 11 or 12, I wrote a sequel to the movie with a pencil and paper. Looking back, it followed a lot of the same plot devices from the first film. I was a kid, sue me. Also, I didn't know what screenplays were back then so I just wrote it as a book. I guess nowadays, it would be considered fanfiction. We didn't have that back in the 90's. Not in Mississippi anyway.

I've been in love with writing ever since. I began writing short stories and posting them on Myspace (remember Myspace? Man, I miss Tom). Then I graduated to posting short stories on Facebook. I did this for years until many of my friends urged me to stop putting my stories on social media (they said it in a nice way) and just write a book. So I did. Then I wrote another. Then another. Then another. I also compiled all of those short stories into a collection called Short Stories by a Short Author. I'm a hair below 5'6". Right now, I'm working on a brand new urban fantasy/crime story which has been a lot of fun to write.

I'm married, with three daughters (two of which are adults living their own lives). The 12-year-old is still at home... ignoring us, her parents. It's fine. We also have a five-year-old mini labradoodle. He's cute and he knows it.

I'm originally from Oklahoma but grew up in Mississippi. Did a decade long stint for the U.S. Air Force before leaving to pursue my dreams of being a normal person. Still working on that. From there, I worked in retail, information technology, and state government.
